About this book

Language: German

Based on nearly 53,000 data points the range, distribution, changes in population levels and distribution, biology, ecology, phenology, threats and conservation are presented of butterfliy species verified to occur in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. In addition, all species are treated that were reported in error from Rhineland-Palatinate, whose earlier occurrences appear doubtful, or which are not known from Palatinate, but which are found in other parts of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. All pictures are in colour, and show all species and, in many cases, eggs, caterpillars, pupae, natural enemies and Rhineland-Palatine habitats.

The focus is on knowledge gained in the Palatinate itself, which is interpreted by evaluating the extensive Palatinate-specific and national literature. Distribution maps, flight time phenograms complete the texts. With the history of the study of butterflies fauna, its distribution in natural areas, the host plant range, the development of the butterfly from egg to airworthy insect, the legal protection and threat to species and their habitats, a new red list of endangered Palatinate butterflies, tangible protection measures and other aspects treated in separate chapters.
