About this book

Language: German

Next to the seas and forests, grasslands are the world's last major ecosystems: major and yet almost forgotten habitats where many rare animals are at home. In this wonderful picture book photographer Ingo Arndt has portrayed the seemingly endless grasslands of our earth and its inhabitants in breathtakingly beautiful, unseen shots. His travels took him to the prairies and Everglades of North America, into the Pampas, the Llanos and Cerrados of South America, the African savannas, the steppes of Mongolia, the largest bamboo forest in China and the vast reed beds in the Danube Delta. Besides monumental landscapes and touching animal portraits, artful detail recordings, made in a special open-air studio, show the various grass types. By reducing grasses to their essentials, the beauty of this seemingly unattractive plant group is revealed in all its facets. The images are accompanied by knowledgeable texts of renowned ethologist and sociobiologist Prof. Dr. Jürgen Tautz.
