About this book

Language: Spanish

This book is a systematic review of the main deposits containing fossils of ungulates from the Upper Pleistocene found in the region of Castilla y León (northern Spain). The remains were analysed both morphologically and metrically. The taxonomic classification is based on the models that are currently used in vertebrate zoology and paleontology. Taking this classification as a base, different methodologies were applied to determine the age of death and sexual dimorphism of the different ungulate species. The results provide new data from a period that witnessed the replacement of one human population, Homo neanderthalensis, with another, Homo sapiens, and show whether they discriminated between species, age and sex, and if they occupied the territory and the caves with the same intensity and in the same periods of the year.
