From the preface:
"This issue features some very interesting taxonomic accounts by young botanists in Malaysia; firstly Kalu Meekiong our energetic, prolific and versatile researcher from UNIMAS has led a few fresh graduate researchers into the family of Cyperaceae. The lead paper exposes how little we knew about the taxonomy and diversity of Mapania (Cyperaceae) in Borneo. Together with up-coming researchers M. I. Miraadila and Z. Shabdin, the team has described and illustrated a total of nine new taxa from Sarawak. The next two accounts demonstrate Meekiong’s commitment to field work, firstly discovering a second species of Tamijia S. Sakai & Nagam. (Zingiberaceae) in Borneo, a genus thought to be monotypic, and secondly describing a new Orchidantha (Lowiaceae) from Sarawak.
The rare item in this issue is the contribution of K. H. Ronald and his co-workers in Arunachal Pradesh discussing the state of medicinal plants studies in Eastern Himalaya with respect to conservation. Another up-coming young botanist and researcher Ahmad Fitri and his co-workers present a note about the extended distribution of Neo-uvaria foetida (Annonaceae) in Peninsular Malaysia. A. Latiff shares his taxonomic zest by describing a new species of Cissus terengganuensis from the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia and Peninsular Thailand, The specimens of this new species were collected coincidently by different workers in 2004, and had remained controversial until resolved here as a new species.
Lastly, our other prolific ginger species author, C. K. Lim described yet another new monotypic genus, Perakalia (Zingiberaceae) from Peninsular Malaysia after many years of in situ and ex situ observations when its type species Perakalia perakensis finally flowered. Its epithet emphasises its endemic status."
