This book contains the proceedings of the 42nd University of Nottingham Feed Conference held in September 2008. Authors of all chapters are international experts in their fields and have provided comprehensive analyses of the issues together with practical applications. This book is essential reading for all involved in animal production science/practice, including researchers, consultants, animal science students, legislators and practitioners.

Dr. Philip Garnsworthy has established an international reputation in dairy science through many years of active research at the University of Nottingham where he is an Associate Professor and Reader in Dairy Science. He is one of the authors of Writing and Presenting Scientific Papers which has been a consistently popular book from Nottingham University Press for many years. He has published many scientific papers and is co-editor of 16 of the annual Recent Advances in Animal Nutrition. He has also edited several ruminant and the occasional non-ruminant book. Dr. Garnsworthy is one of the two founders of Nottingham University Press which was started in 1992, and he still retains an active interest in the company.
Professor Julian Wiseman has worked at the University of Nottingham, UK for many years. He is a Professor of Animal Production with a major emphasis on research into pig nutrition. He has published extensively; is the author 3 books on pigs, and he has edited another 25 books. These include topics such as animal feedstuffs, poultry, rabbit, and ruminant production. He has translated 3 books from French into English. Professor Wiseman has been a co-author of 12 volumes of the annual series Recent Advances in Animal Nutrition.
