Oils and fats from plants are increasingly needed for both food in developing countries, and for commercial use in industrialized ones. A search is underway, particularly in the Amazon, to find previously unused oil-yielding plants. This book is the first serious scientific work to focus on the vegetable oil resources of the Amazon. First published 40 years ago in Portuguese, it represents to this day virtually the only source of information on the characteristics of many oilseed plants of the region. It considers more than 100 species and varieties from their botanical, chemical, and ethno-botanical aspects.
