Biography

A childhood spent in Kenya fostered in author Karen Ross a love of Farica and a passion for nature. She has a doctorate in wildlife ecology from Edinburgh University and hjas spent most of her life working in Africa, mainly in the Okavango Delta. Her book was first published as a companion to a three part documentary series of the same title, produced by Partridge Films for the BBC, for which she was researcher and writer. Staying in Botswana, she founded conservation International's programme there in 1992 ans directed it for many years, living under canvas and raising her daughter Lena near the frontier town of Maun. Now resident in Cape Town, Karen Ross continues to work for Conservation International, a major force worldwide and part of past and current conservation action in Botswana.
