About this book

These are the proceedings of the Ophiolite Conference, held in Muscat, Oman, January 1990, which was attended by some 300 participants from 27 countries. The symposium brought together marine geophysicists and other investigators of recent oceanic lithosphere, and field geologists working on ophiolite belts. This volume represents a wide spectrum of topics covered in the Symposium, and is divided into the following sections: Processes at Spreading Centers, Magmatic Ores, Hydrothermalism, Tectonics of Emplacement and Metamorphism, Palaeogeographic Setting of the Oman Ophiolite, Palaeoenvironment of Other Ophiolites, and Mapping Ophiolites. The first section is subdivided into processes occurring either in the crust or in the mantle.
