About this book

In response to frequent requests for guidance on the reclamation and management of non-ferrous metalliferous mining sites, an 18-month research programme was commissioned which pays particular attention to non-agricultural after uses. To compile the report current literature and practices were reviewed, a wide range of organizations consulted, and visits were made to over 30 sites in Great Britain. The findings of the review were then distilled to provide the best practical options for dealing with sites contaminated either as a result of former mining operation or through the reworking of metalliferous mineral wastes, and also on the prevention of contamination at new workings.
