About this book

This book is based on the 1973-1985 Ecosystem Study on Highland Meadows in Czechoslovakia, and it examines the functioning of these grasslands and their changes under the impact of man. It contains analysis of soil micro-organisms and their functions in decomposition and soil forming processes, leading to the evaluation of the whole carbon cycle. Procedures used in agriculture are evaluated from both ecological and economic viewpoints.
