About this book

Language: German

Detailed ultrastructural studies have been carried out on the morphology of chloroplasts and the flagellated cells, and about the relationships between the mouth apparatus, the cytoskeleton and the processes of cell division of green algae. They have close relationships between the Characeae, i.e. the family of stoneworts sensu stricto, on the one hand, and are dissimilar from simple built algae on the other hand with which they were previously classified in very different places in the system of green algae. Based on these findings, the existing class of Charophyceae been extended. Besides the Charales it now includes several more orders, namely Chlorokybales, Klebsormidiales, Coleochaetales (which will be dealt with in Volume 13). The Characeae are also close to the Zygnematales or Conjugatophyceae (Süßwasserflora: Volume 16 and Volume 17) which have many features of the representatives of the so-called "Landpflanzenastes" in their pedigree.
