About this book

Language: German

In this volume one of the richest groups of green algae, and their flagellate organization, is summarized. Of particular attention has been paid to the identification keys, the short diagnoses and particularly the figures to ensure correct identification of the investigated material. A general part to Chlorophyta is preceded by clarification of the morphological and reproductive terms commonly used. In addition, the new division, not only of Phytomonadina, but also of all green algae, is justified. Not only the role of Chlorophyta in water management, waste water and domestic water supply, but also in general biology is discussed. Many Phytomonadina that are maintained in culture, serve as model organisms in cytological, physiological, genetic and evolutionary research. This volume also takes into account non-European territories, particularly as it is often assumed that unicellular forms are widespread. Only in the genus Volvox have the subtropical and tropical species been omitted. However, they are listed in an overview, and as an annex to the higher groups of marine or saline genera and species.
