Mismanagement of soil resources and inefficient resource-based agricultural systems in the humid tropics are causing serious degradation of the ecoregion and perpetuating the food deficit, malnutrition, and poor standards of living. This volume, which focuses on the successful management of resources to satisfy changing human needs while maintaining or enhancing the quality of the environment and conserving natural resources, collates available information on scientifically proven methods of deforestation for agricultural land use, and soil and crop management systems for sustained use of soil and water resources.
