About this book

Language: English with bilingual summary and keys in English and Spanish

Important reference work on this South American herpetofauna, presenting a detailed treatment of all turtle species and subspecies known from Venezuela. This book follows the standard format, and includes synonymies, keys, species descriptions, range maps, lists of localities, and other topics. However, certain idiosyncrasies and non-standard approaches will be apparent. One of the most noticeable of these is the variety of kinds of records accepted for the range maps and locality lists. Many herpetologists rigorously exclude from such summaries any specimen that is not in a permanent museum collection. The authors have taken the different approach of including all records that are, in their judgment, credible, even though in some cases voucher specimens are still alive, not available, or are in private collections.
