In many upland forests the cover of broadleaved trees is very low and efforts are being made to increase it, primarily for environmental benefits rather than timber production. This Bulletin summarises current knowledge of the value of birch to various wildlife groups and suggests ways in which it can be used to increase the wildlife value of upland forests.
