In the tropics, sustainable production of rainfed annual crop species without the traditional long fallow period remains an unsolved problem. Alley-cropping is receiving increased attention, because it reduces soil degradation. This book contains eight papers on the use of three leguminous perennials - Leucaena leucocephala, Gliciridia sepium and Dioscorea alata - as auxiliary species in the production of water yam.
