This publication is the third in a series which aims to provide a preliminary status report on the marine algal resources of the various countries. It consists of 13 background papers prepared by the country representatives at the Asia-Pacific workshop, held in Townsville, Australia in May 1984. Each paper deals with four broad areas pertaining to marine algal resources:
- identification of species and their spatial distribution;
- their current and prospective exploitation;
- their research, training and education needs;
- infrastructural facilities for their scientific research and technological development (R&D).
