About this book

A controversial perspective on how best to assess the value of the environment. Howard Odum, the `father' of systems ecology, introduces the concept of `emergy' as a way of placing the value of commodities, services, and environmental goods of various kinds on a common basis, making environmental decision-making a more rational and less emotive process. By applying emergy concepts to nature and society, Odum suggests a better way to arrive at public policies on resources and environment.
