About this book
The book has its origins in papers presented to a conference on Environmentally Sound Socio-Economic Development in the Humid Tropics, held in June 1992 in Manaus. All the contributions, which were prepared by Brazilian scientists, or by scientists a long time resident there, deal with topics related to Amazonia and its tropical forests and watersheds, and the human impact that they support.
