About this book

Throughout the developing world, mining is one of the major income-generating industries in rural areas. The individual mining operations themselves are small - or medium-scale and they are often far from major towns. It is often difficult for those engaged in this kind of mining to have access to the right kind of written guidance regarding the type and scale of machinery most appropriate to the range of jobs involved in the industry. This guide is divided into seven sections, dealing with the whole process of mining, from prospecting and surveying through haulage, handling and transport to general purpose equipment, with a section devoted to the all-important area of safety and safety equipment. Each chapter has an introduction written by an expert in that particular field, outlining the kind of equipment most likely to be needed and its application within the mine. Contact addresses of suppliers are listed, most types of equipment clearly illustrated, and basic technical information supplied.
