About the editor LARRY D. PARTAIN, PhD, is Senior Scientist and Corporate Research Marketing Manager in charge of electronics and materials development for Varian Research Center. A prominent researcher in solar cell technology with more than twenty years in the field, Dr. Partain recently set a world record by developing a 28 per cent efficient GaAs concentrator solar cell.
