About this book

Language: German

Who doesn't know them, the colourful lucky charms, children's favourites. In this book, you will read about the rich cultural and economic relationships between ladybirds (Coccinellidae) and humans, including their migrations. Most ladybirds are predatory, they are known to be enemies of aphids and scale insects, but their diet is much more varied. Their development follows a fixed cycle that is being altered by global warming. Ladybugs have a diverse range of natural enemies, which may include their own kind.

This book gives an overview of all 119 species occurring in Central Europe and describes in detail their way of life and environmental requirements. Identification tables for the imagines of all species as well as for a large part of the larvae enable in-depth knowledge. A shortened key for common species according to easily visible characteristics serves as an introduction to ladybug lore. Numerous photos of all stages of development and drawings support this.
