Butterflies of Dorset is the first book of its kind since C.W. Dale's Lepidoptera of Dorsetshire 1886. Few counties can rival Dorset's wealth of butterflies, and there remain many places in the county where they can be seen in abundance.
The history, life cycle, habitat, food-plants, and conservation of each species are described in Butterflies of Dorset. Maps, compiled by the Dorset Environmental Records Centre from information supplied from a network of recorders, summarise for the first time the past and present distribution of all species.
Each species is also illustrated in colour, so that the book can be used as an identification guide.
The authors are entomologists working at Furzebrook Research Station (Institute of Terrestrial Ecology), Wareham, Dorset.
