About this book

Language: German

The representatives of the longhorn beetle family (Cerambycidae) belong to the most striking native beetles in Germany, often due to their large size, their bizarre body shape, and not least because of their colourful splendor. Characteristic are the long, curved horn-like protrustions.

The beetles their development is done in live or dead, mushroom-infested wood, herbaceous plants, or even in the ground. The vast majority of the species are harmless elements of nature, some are of importance to the biology of soil because they contribute to the decomposition of dead wood. Many longhorn beetle species have become rare and are protected, some are specifically protected in Europe under the German Fauna-Flora-Habitat-Richtlinie.

The present, thoroughly revised and greatly extended two-volume edition of Die Bockkäfer Mitteleuropas provides an overview of the species found in Central Europe, describes their life and environmental requirements and allows the determination of all species. Many photos and drawings support this. For the larvae an introduction is given to the detailed knowledge available.
