Tourism is a way to use global biodiversity, and it may have impacts on it. As tourism activities concentrate on coastal areas, the purpose of the present study is twofold: first, to analyse where and to what extent conflicts exist, or may be expected to arise, between conservation of biological diversity and development of tourism; secondly, to work out approaches and concepts which may be used to avoid and settle such conflicts.
