About this book

Over 100 type catalogs are listed below. About three fourths of the papers were included in eariier lists of type catalogs but some papers were listed that are not type catalogs. For the sake of completeness, most of these are included below. About thirty overlooked papers, or papers published after 1974, are also referenced. Because type catalogs do not conform to any rules or consistently report the same information, annotations are provided. The annotation for each entry includes comments upon the organization, the information provided, the sort of type material listed (i.e., primary types or primary and secondary types), and whether or not taxonomic decisions were made by the authors (i.e., lectotypes designated, species synonymized, etc.). The annotated segment is preceded by a museum index, and a family index follows. Those interested in either a particular collection or a particular taxonomic group can use this bibliography to help locate specific type material.
