About this book

Austria is one of Europe's most walker-friendly countries. Its 40,000 km of well-maintained and waymarked trails through breathtaking scenery pass more than a thousand mountain huts and countless attractive villages, hospitable hotels, inns and restaurants. It also boasts an extensive, integrated public transport system that is particularly useful for walkers.

This comprehensive new guide by Alpine expert Kev Reynolds outlines over 100 of the best walks in ten districts that illustrate the rich diversity of the Eastern Alps--with all the information you need to make the most of an active mountain holiday in Austria.

"Previous experience would suggest that the combination of Kev Reynolds and Cicerone Press is a winning combination and indeed this guide lives up to that expectation. The content is excellent. The information provided is accurate and easy to follow both in respect of the route and of the huts. It is impossible to find anything to criticise in the presentation. This book is a must for anyone visiting the Austrian Alps. The price is modest for the amount of information on offer. Very strongly recommended."
- AMI Magazine, June 2009

"This chunky little guide should give and visitor to Austria enough inspiration for probably a lifetime of walks and multi-day treks. If you're planning to go walking in Austria, buy this now."
- Adventure Travel Magazine, May/June 2009

"Austria is surely a 'must visit' area for everyone who loves walking in the mountains and this book is an excellent introductory guide. It includes 102 routes in the 10 main areas of the Eastern Alps and so, to quote the author contains 'something to suit every taste and all degrees of commitment.' The introductory section is well-suited to the newcome and includes information about the nature of each of the 10 areas. Most importantly the author grades the routes. All in all an excellent book!"
- Strider - LDWA, December 2009

"It is a pleasure to see a further guide from our old friend Kev Reynolds. He has taken on the task of putting together an extensive presentation of moderately graded walking routes. His publishers give us lavish illustrations, along with the expected route sketches. As a planning tool for the areas covered it is admirable. There is clear background advice on a variety of matters, including transport links and accommodation."
- Austrian Alpine Club newsletter, Autumn 2009

"This guide covers ten Austrian mountain districts from the Ratikon and Silvretta Alps on the border of Switzerland, to the Hohe Tauern and the little known Karawanken on the border with Slovenia. A lot to put in one book by one author, but the ubiquitous Kev Reynolds has been walking the mountains of Austria for fourty years and I am confident he is the author to do it. The introduction is as ample as we have come to expect from Cicerone. One unusual item in particular struck me--Hut Etiquette, a subject I would have found very useful on my first climbing trip in Switzerland 60 years ago. The colour illustrations, give a good idea of the mountains and the huts. [...]"
