This rich and diverse reference is both an excellent handbook to Nepal's mammals and a well referenced guide to its protected areas. It begins with a general introduction to mammals and then describes 186 species, with a description, and information on habit, habitat, and distribution. The second part of the book is concerned with the national parks and reserves. Each entry is comprehensive and includes details of the location; history; vegetation; fauna; climate; facilities; main activities; park regulations; fees; how to get there; and accomodation. Finally, there are a series of some 27 mini-essays, each between 2-10 pages long, which cover a host of topics, including: common mammals in protected areas; conservation issues; endemic and threatened fish, reptiles, amphibians, mammals, and birds; how to see and observe wildlife; list of wildlife safaris.
