The proceedings of the Peatland 2000 Conference held in November 1997. Only 18 per cent of Ireland's peatlands remain in a natural state, and a strategy for their sustainable use needs to be prepared. The conference was a step in the right direction, and the 24 papers explore the conservation, biodiversity, archaeology and restoration of these dwindling areas.
