This publication contains 38 of 80 papers on the inner magnetosphere system that were presented at a two-day symposium on this subject at the 31st COSPAR Scientific Assembly held in Birmingham, England. It consists of observational and theoretical papers on the ring current, neutral atom imaging, transport of radiation-belt electrons and protons, plasmasphere, subauroral ionosphere, fields and particles in the inner magnetosphere, currents in the inner ionosphere/inner magnetosphere system, and waves. Included are invited papers on CRRES ring current observations, prediction of ring current strength, ENA imaging of magnetospheric ions from both high- and low-altitude spacecraft, dynamics of the outer plasmasphere, and the large-scale current system and ionosphere/magnetosphere coupling. Contributed papers add to the understanding of the complex inner magnetosphere system.
