About this book

Although the development and application of dissolved air flotation for water and wastewater treatment, principally in South Africa and Europe, has been well established for a few decades, its use in the USA and elsewhere is relatively recent. What has become clear, though, is that it is frequently the "best available technology", whether for industrial or municipal applications, for raw water clarification, sludge thickening or wastewater treatment. This is evidence from these proceedings which are an up-to-date overview of flotation technology worldwide. They include papers and posters selected from those presented at the very busy three day conference on Flotation Processes in Water and Sludge Treatment, in Orlando, Florida in April 1994, which was attended by about 180 delegates. The papers have been grouped, starting with fundamental concepts, moving through pretreatment and process selection, on to applications in wastewater and sludge and then industrial applications.
