Biography

TIM S. GRAY is Professor of Political Thought and Head of the Department of Politics, University of Newcastle. He trained as a political theorist, he has written/co-written four books and articles and chapters on political thought and philosophy. Since 1990 he has taken a keen interest in environmental issues and he edited (in 1995) UK Environmental Policy in the 1990s (Macmillan). In that book, Gray co-authored, with a research student (Anthony Stenson), a chapter on the politics of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP). Since then, Gray's interest in fisheries politics deepened, not least because of his son Mark's expertise in marine biology and fisheries management. As a result, Tim Gray organised a colloquium on the Politics of Fishing in 1996, out of which the present book originates.
