Pedanius Dioscorides wrote his great herbal about 2,000 years ago. The only English translation has been that for his own use by the botanist John Goodyer in the C17. This translation had to wait 279 years for its first publication in an edition made by Robert T Gunther in 1933, with reprints in 1934 and 1959. The purpose of this new version is to offer to today's reader a more accessible text than that of Goodyer/Gunther, which is replete with post-medieval terms and colloquialisms.
