Describes the origins and diversification of ecomuseums and attempts a redefinition of the ecomuseum after thirty years of deveopment. Using case studies from around the world, it assesses the current range of activities undertaken by ecomuseums and suggests ways in which they might contribute towards ecotourism and sustainable communities.
