Comprehensive treatment of the genus Saxicola comprising, amongst others, the Stonechat and the Whinchat. It is primarily an identification guide, using colour plates and photographs to illustrate the various races and plumages, but the text also covers the biology, habitat and range of each species. Accurate distribution maps are also provided. New DNA data is presented here for the first time, addressing some of the complex taxonomic issues affecting this fascinating genus.
