The guide is written for the layman as well as the professional botanists with field identification in mind. Field characters of many of the trees, all detailed bark descriptions, and almost all illustrations are now published for the first time. In addition, two graphical identification keys are provided: one based on bark, another on leaf characters. Introductory chapters on tree science and the environment and history of the Usambara Mountains, and the illustrated glossary will help the reader in navigating through the guide.
Designed for practical field use, this guide produced with financial support from the Finnish Government will be of interest to all those concerned with tree preservation and conservation. Although expensive, an extremely valuable resource.
