About this book

Language: Czech with English summaries

The four-volume monograph series Vegetation of the Czech Republic systematically summarizes what is known about the types of natural and human-influenced plant communities occurring in the Czech Republic. It describes the floristic composition, ecology, dynamics, expansion and economic importance of vegetation in a structured text, which is rich in color photographs of vegetation, distribution maps, graphs and comparative tables of species composition. At the same time it proposes a critically revised classification of plant communities, which was based on the analysis of tens of thousands of relevés contained in the Czech National Phytosociological database. The first part of the monograph published in 2007 and was devoted to grassland and heathland vegetation. The second part is devoted mainly to vegetation and manmade, heavily modified habitats such as arable land, urban areas and nearby villages or roads. At the same time, this volume treats characteristic vegetation of rocks, walls and rubble. The book is an essential reference guide for naturalists, conservationists, farmers, teachers, students and all others interested in the biodiversity of the Czech Republic.
