This monograph summarizes the results of world-wide research into the systematics and life history of true finches (family Fringillidae). The phylogeny and classification, size and mass of the body, some features of morphology, moult, habitats, ecological niches, abundance and its fluctuations, impact of global climate changes, age and sex structure, territorial behavior, philopatry, ecology of reproductive period, seasonal movements, speed of migration, mortality and longevity are reviewed. В монографии обобщены существующие на сегодняшний день научные сведения о птицах семейства вьюрковых птиц (Fringillidae) из отряда Passeriformes: систематика и классификация, размеры и масса тела, характерные черты морфологии, линька оперения, местообитания, экологические ниши и пищевое поведение, численность и её колебания, возрастно-половой состав популяций, территориальное и другие формы поведения, биологические особенности и экология репродуктивного периода, различные формы сезонных передвижениий, скорость миграций, смертность и продолжительность жизни. Особое внимание уделено обзору последних результатов исследований филогении вьюрковых молекулярно-генетическими методами, которые существенно изменили представления о систематике и скорости диверсификации таксонов этого семейства. Приведен полный систематический каталог вьюрковых птиц с учетом всех современных молекулярных исследований и филогенетических кладограмм. Книга предназначена для орнитологов, зоологов широкого профиля, работников охраны природы, студентов и аспирантов биологических специальностей.
