About this book

Language: English

Prosenjit Das Gupta, born in Kolkata in 1944, was educated at St. Xavier's Collegiate School and the Presidency College, Kolkata. In spite of his professional commitments in a well-known establishment in Kolkata, he retained a keen interest in nature study, bird watching and wildlife photography since about 1968. He has travelled in almost all well-known, and not-so-well known, wildlife sanctuaries the length and breadth of the country for over forty years.

India is endowed with a wealth of wildlife habitats from the mangroves of the Sunderbans, to the steamy rain forests of the north-east lndia, the park-like forests of Palamau and Bandipur, the sal groves of Simlipai, Kanha, Gommara and Corbett, thick grasslands of Kaziranga, Manas and Dudhwa, to the thorn forests of Ranthambhore and Gir; not to mention the Wetlands of Bharatpur, Chilka and Ranganathittoo. The author has visited these forests, often more than once or twice, and records in these pages his experiences in the wild, from meeting up with tiger while on foot, or being charged by an elephant, or threatened by a rhino; or, coming across the “deohanh” or the White-winged Wood Duck or the Wedge-billed Wren Babbler, two of the rarest birds in India. It is an open invitation to any reader so inclined to share and savour these “Wild Experiences”.
