The Wild Woods of Ireland: Field Studies Guide is produced by the Education Department of the Irish Peatland Conservation Council. This Field Studies Guide is essential for teachers of Primary and Secondary school students and Instructors in Education Centres. It meets the objectives of the Geography, Science and Biology syllabi. It is ideal for Transition Year students.
The Field Studies Guide is laid out in two parts. Part I contains information on the different woodland types found in Ireland, their history ecology, conservation, management and wildlife. Part II contains photocopiable woodland field studies worksheets. Teachers and Instructors can choose from these according to the ability of the students. There are field studies activities that focus on individual trees and there are surveys and investigations focusing on woodlands. There is a special investigation for senior students which involves them in assessing two woodland areas for their biodiversity and past management with a view to drawing up a management plan for the conservation and wise use of the woodland in the future.
