The forests and woodlands of Victoria's Box-Ironbark region are one of the most important areas of faunal diversity and significance in Southern Australia. Box-Ironbark woodlands provide critical habitat for many threatened species such as the Squirrel Glider, Brush-tailed Phascogale, Regent Honeyeater, Swift Parrot, Pink-tailed Worm-lizard and Woodland Blind Snake. It provides a useful guide to the resident and migratory vertebrate fauna of the region, and enables identification of 26 species of mammals, 175 birds, 43 reptiles and 13 amphibians.
