About this book

Winged Wonders: Malaysian Heritage is the sequel to Winged Wonders in Malaysia. It represents the culmination of the last decade of bird watching and bird photography. All of the colour photographs and the over-90 bird species featured in Winged Wonders: Malaysian Heritage are new and not recycled, lovingly captured in their natural habitats – lowlands; mudflats and mangroves; ricefields; freshwater wetlands; scrublands; lowland, small hill and highland forests.

The authors have tried to showcase the spectacular beauty and remarkable drama of the country's resident and migratory birds from the common to the rare ones.

As with their previous book, the authors hope that Winged Wonders: Malaysian Heritage will:
- strengthen public awareness and appreciation for the diverse wealth and vast array of Malaysia's avifaunal legacy
- emphasise the need to protect the unique and distinct habitats that are critical to the survival of birds
- motivate more people to preserve their national treasures

Biography

Hum Kim Choy, 82, has always been a teacher and a naturalist. He spends a lot of time enjoying the peace and quiet of the forests, walking and trekking and just admiring the wonderful flora and fauna around him. His wife, Ooi Poh Sim joins her husband on all his trips. After five decades of togetherness, some of Ooi’s photography skills have rubbed off on her, and some of the photos are featured in this book.
