This book provides a valuable introduction to the survey of woodlands for nature conservation. It summarises much of the experience gained from surveys carried out by the Nature Conservancy Council and Nature Conservation Trusts over the last 10 years. The main emphasis is on field surveys using vascular plant records to give a preliminary assessment of a wood's nature conservation value. Other types of survey from broadscale desk studies to epiphytic lichen communities are discussed.
