The first society in the world entirely devoted to the study of
lichens, it has many overseas as well as British members. The
society was formed in 1958, and arranges annual residential
meetings in spring, summer and autumn in all parts of the British
Isles, and occasionally abroad, enabling members to become better
acquainted with lichens in the field and giving the opportunity
for beginners to learn from more experienced members.
