The Society for Marine Mammalogy was founded in San Francisco,
California, on December 15, 1981. Any person is qualified for
full membership who is a professional in natural science or the
management, husbandry, conservation or training of marine mammals.
The Society publishes the quarterly journal Marine Mammal Science,
a quarterly Newsletter and Special Publications.

SMM AIMS
- To evaluate and promote the educational, scientific and
managerial advancement of marine mammal science
- To gather and disseminate to members of the Society, the public
and public and private institutions, scientific, technical and
management information
- To provide scientific information, on matters related to the
conservation and management of marine mammal resources
