The African Bird Club has established a membership base of over
1,250 enthusiasts of African ornithology, scattered in more than
60 countries on five continents. ABC covers the regions;
Continental Africa, Indian Ocean islands, eg. Madagascar, the
Mascarene islands and Socotra, Atlantic Ocean on or east of the
Mid-Atlantic Ridge, eg.the Azores and the Canaries. About a
quarter of the world's bird species, more than 2400, have been
recorded in the region, with 322 included in 'Birds to Watch 2,
the most recent summary of the world's threatened and
near-threatened species.

ABC AIMS
- To provide a worldwide focus for African ornithology
to encourage an interest in the areas conservation
- To liaise with and promote the work of existing regional
societies
- To encourage observers to visit lesser known areas, and search
for globally threatened species to develop a conservation fund
