About this book

Language: French

This flora is intended to help readers look at the wildflowers around them and help to identify them, know them, love them and protect them. To this end, the authors began by identifying plants that flourished around their home in Saint-Galmier – a commune in the Loire department in central France – but nature gradually transformed their lawn into a kind of grass prairie. They then left their homes and took to the streets, paths and woods around their village and its surroundings. They photographed the plants from early spring until the arrival of winter and gathered about 150 records that include, besides the botanical description of each species, information on the properties of use, the origin of the name, possible confusion species and plenty of stories or anecdotes. The book also includes a simple method of identification, a brief history of botany and a reminder of the particular local geology (plain, granitic massifs, volcanic zones, faults and mineral springs).
