This large boxed set of two books, weighing about 9 kg, recounts the author’s lifelong passion for open ocean marine life and how that passion was developed and achieved in what is arguably the widest and most fully visually and anecdotally documented coverage yet produced.
The author, Peter Parks, recounts his autobiographical history that took him from “Fishpond to Fantasy”, Oxford to Hollywood, and the formation of both Oxford Scientific Films and Image Quest 3-D via Life on Earth, Superman 1 and a host of wildlife productions for both BBC and Anglia ITV networks to Imax and ultimately to pioneering Imax 3-D wildlife production, which won him an Oscar and an OBE.
With 400 full colour double page spreads, showing some 4000 separate full colour images, this book showcases the author's far-ranging interest and passion for all aspects of the drifting community and the huge planktonivorous creatures that depend upon that community both at the surface, and in the ocean’s depths, These books also contains the first ever attempt to illustrate as many as 240 planktonic larval forms with their adults, beautifully contributed by the author’s great friend and Australia’s greatest marine photographer, Roger Steene.
