This compilation of information conceming the world Myrmeleontidae is complete through the year 2000. There are 1522 extant and about 13 fossil species recognized in 201 genera classified in 14 tribes and five subfamilies including two fossil subfamilies, Araripeneurinae and Palaeoleontinae. During the course of type examinations and revisions of antlion groups, 48 generic synonymies, 58 species synonymies and 250 new combinations were discovered and are indicated in this catalog. In general, subspecies are not recognized. Data obtained from the published accounts are organized under each taxon using categories such as taxonomy, keys to taxa, further description, biology and distribution. For each taxon and its synonyms, complete type information is given including the depository and any new actions. Faunal lists and sources for identification are listed as well as lists of parasites and predators, common names in various languages, morphology, genetics, fossils, type depositories and classification. Keys to all higher categories (subfamilies, tribes, genera) based on adults and larvae are provided.
