It is the aim of the present paper to outline the reasons for the relative species deficiency in a section of the biocenotic structure of the tropical rainforest in the Peruvian Amazon region. The studied waterbody is an almost continuously tree-shaded pond without floating vegetation. It is situated in a montane forest and plays an important role in the generation of blackwater.
